“Thank you for this celebration of Herbert. It was good to have his poems read in Polish and the perspective of a younger person. The star of the evening was Nick Laird. He read the poems so well (impressively loud and slow enough to let the meaning sink in). Like him I went to Poland in 1961 – what a world away; oppressed and raped of their prosperity even food by the USSR and yet full of great conversations. Lastly it was wonderful to have the clips of him reciting his verse.”
